United manager Sir Alex Ferguson brings back old players for Aberdeen friendly

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will take a mix of current first-team members and former players for a friendly against his former club Aberdeen.
United to play Aberdeen on friendlyThe match has been scheduled as a testimonial for Neil Simpson, who played under Ferguson during a successful European Cup Winners' Cup campaign in 1983 and is now a coach with the Dons.

And the Red Devils boss has revealed that there will be an unusual blend of players past and present on show during the match.

"We've got the internationals on but we've got Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, and I'm bringing back some of the old players like Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Quinton Fortune and Clayton Blackmore," Sir Alex told MUTV. "Then it's all the young players.
"Yorkie refused to go unless he was captain and takes all the penalties and corner kicks! We'll go up there with people expecting to see Manchester United at our best and we have a lot of supporters from Aberdeen.

"They travel down on a flight for every home match, I think 120 come down, so we've got fans up there and we want to do well in every game. It'll be nice to do it coming up against my old team."

The United boss also paid tribute to Simpson, who was one of his first signings at Aberdeen before he made the switch to Old Trafford.

Sir Alex added: "He was one of my first signings at Aberdeen. I think he was the first signing as he was training with them at the time and was only 15 or 16.

"He developed very well and was totally committed. He was a serious competitor with a tremendous engine, going up and down all the time, and was an integral part of Aberdeen in the great success they had and played in all the big games.

"He's a nice boy - a very quiet and unassuming lad who always kept his feet on the ground. He's been a smashing servant to Aberdeen."
