The University of Nigeria (UNN) Nsukka has announced the release of its 2012/2013 admission list. The registrar of the institution, Mr A.I Okonta disclosed that prospective students who wrote UTME and chose the school as their first and second choice should check UNN website for their names. The registration process was also stated by the university. Students who gained admission to study at the premier institution are expected to pay the sum of twenty five thousand naira (N25,000) as acceptance fee through First Bank and Diamond Bank.

The Senate of the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, has held its inaugural session and approved that academic activities should commence in the insbosomution from the 15th of September, 2012. The University Senate also pegged insbosomutional fees and charges at between sixty and sixty-two thousand naira per session. Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor , Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, congratulated the Senate of the University for successfully convening and described the meeting as historic and epoch-making as it marked a bold move toward eventual take off of the insbosomution. Madonna University, Okija,Anambra State, has regained it operating license after months of seizure by the Nigeria University Commission (NUC). The license of the private university was suspended alongside the one Lead University,Ibadan and others. However, in a letter addressed to  Madonna Univerity, the NUC stated that they are satisfied by the measures taken by the institution to correct annomalies since the suspension took effect. The letter was signed by Professor C Mafiana the director of Quality Assurance. National Universities Commission (NUC) directed that the lifting of suspension on the operating license of Madonna University takes effect from Friday 17 August. There is also a condition that the NUC will continue to monitor the progess of the institution to ensure full compliance with regulatory guidelines. About 449 first class students graduates of Universities across the federation yesterday sat for an aptitude test for selection in the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for innovation and development. The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, who supervised the conduct of the test at an ICT firm, Chams Plc, in Abuja, said that the short-listed 449 candidates met the selection criteria. He disclosed that the best 100 candidates that would emerge from the test would be awarded the 2012 version of the special scholarship scheme. Prof. Okojie noted that the selection criteria was purely based on merit, and refuted claims in some quarters that the criteria used for selection was a deliberate policy to marginalise some candidates in certain parts of the country. The strike emback by ASUU, Rivers State University of Science and Technology chapter, has paralysed academic activities at the institution. Reports has it that lecturers in the university embarked on the strike to protest alleged refusal of the State Government to rescind its decision on the re-appointment of Prof. Barineme Fakae as Vice Chancellor of the university. The union claimed that there was pressure on Gov. Chibuike Amaechi to circumvent due process in the appointment of the vice chancellor. The union had earlier recommended that Amaechi should appoint a vice chancellor from the best three candidates who emerged during the screening exercise. Our correspondent who visited the university reports that academic activities had been halted with students loitering around the campus. We wish to inform all prospective students who sat for the recently concluded post UTME of the Bingham University that the result of the post UTME examination is out. Unlike other schools in the country, Bingham University did not make result of the test/exam open to students but simply sends a text message to the phone number the applicants used to register informing them of their result. Candidates are expected to report to the ICT section of the university upon the receipt of the SMS. Thereafter, a non-refundable payment of N5,000 is then paid to the school’s account with Diamond bank. Only 649,156 candidates, representing 38.81 per cent of those who sat for the May/June 2012 Senior Secondary School Certificate examination, obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics. According to details of the results released yesterday by the West Africa Examination Council, this represents an eight per cent improvement when compared with that of 2011 May/June results, which had a pass level of 30.91 per cent. The Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Iyi Uwadiae, at a press briefing at the council's office in Yaba, Lagos, stated that 1,695,8788 candidates registered for the examination out of which 1,672,224 candidates, consisting of 923,974 male and 748,250 female candidates, sat for the examination. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Friday said it withheld the results of 112,000 candidates who sat for the May/June 2012 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Dr Iyi Uwadiae, Head of National Office of WAEC, who addressed newsmen in Lagos, said that the results were withheld over examination malpractices. “I want to say that these cases are already being investigated and the reports of our findings will be presented to the Nigerian Examinations Committee (NEC) of the council in due course for consideration. “The committee’s decision will be communicated to the affected candidates through their schools,” he said. Giving a breakdown of the results, he disclosed that only 1,672,224 of the 1,695,878 candidates who registered for the examination nationwide sat for it. The Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, on Monday, disclosed that the University graduated 5,383 persons in various disciplines in the 2011/2012 academic session. The vice-chancellor said that the Senate approved 4,686 first degrees, 679 post- graduate degrees, and 18 diplomas from the Institute of Education. The Faculty of Science recorded 11 first class graduates, while the Faculties of Agriculture, Business, and Social Sciences produced seven first class graduates each.
