The Channel O Music Video Awards will be taking place on November 19, 2012 and organisers have announced this year’s nominees. 13 Nigerian artistes received nods, including pop singers 2face, D’banj, P-Square, Wizkid, Wande Coal, Davido, Mo’Cheddah, Brymo, and Orezi. Highlife singer Flavour, R&B diva Tiwa Savage and rappers Naeto C and Ice Prince are also up for nominations. Kenyan pop group Camp Mulla who have had a fantastic run in the last year lead the list with four nominations – in the ‘Most Gifted East African video of the Year’, ‘Most Gifted Newcomer video of the Year’, ‘Most Gifted Video of the Year’, and ‘Most Gifted Group/Duo’. D’banj, Brymo, Ice Prince and Davido are nominated twice.  D’banj and Brymo are however the only two Nigerian acts to make the ‘Most Gifted Video of the Year’ category. The awards, now in its ninth edition will hold  in Kliptown, Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Chris Lighty, a music manager who has worked with the likes of Mariah Carey, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and 50 Cent, shot and killed himself on Thursday morning following an argument with his ex-wife at his Bronx home. Top Nigerian Music director and producer, Don Jazzy has donated two million naira to Funmi Lawal, the law student diagnosed with Mal ig nant Sarcoma. Lawal’s story made the headlines on August 20, 2012, with many soliciting help for her to stay alive. The cost of her full medical treatment was put at N4m. Barely 24 hours later, Mavin Records  CEO Don Jazzy, who has previously shown philanthropic tendencies, has, according to sources, donated half of the money.
