Muslims set to celebrate Sallah on Sunday

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared that the Eid-el-Ftr would be celebrated on Sunday.  This is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman, Advisory Committee of the Sultanate's Council on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Junaid

The statement said that the new moon of shawwal was not sighted anywhere in Nigeria on Friday, and as such, ``the moon of Ramadan had completed its 30-day circle.''

``So Sunday, August 19, 2012, is the first day of Shawwal 1433 AH and automatically the Sallah day,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the council as saying in the statement.
