Gunmen Killed Soldiers At Central Mosque In Kogi State

Tragedy  again struck on Tuesday barely 24 hours after the mass murder of members of Deeper Live Bible Church in Otitte in Adavi Local government area by gun men,  suspected terrorists attacked the Okene central mosque killing two soldiers.

According to an eyewitness, the armed men who allegedly came  in a Hilux pickup van wore white clothes pretending to be coming to pray while chanting some islamic songs before they suddenly opened fire at the adherents in  the mosque in the process the military on guard were killed while one of hoodlums lost his life in the duel.

Some Muslims around the mosque were said to be holding tobsil (Ramadan) lectures  at the central mosque in Okene before they were attacked. The commissioner of police,Alhaji Muhammed Katsina who confirmed the incident including the death of two soldiers, also said the soldiers were able to kill one of the gunmen.

The state governor, Captain Idris in the state wide broadcast  placed a dusk to down in the Okene and the entire central senatoral district of the state. While in Lokoja,he said the movement of commercial motorcyclists are restricted from 6am to 6pm.

The governor described the act as barbaric and on called for. “I feel sad that indigene of the state who were worshiping in the church were brutally murdered by unknown gun men and one can not truly understand their motive when this people did not provoke them”he lamented.

Earlier,the  senator, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District,Senator Nurrudeen Abatemi  has called on the security agents to intensify their fight against terrorist activities in the country.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Mr. Micheal Jegede  urged ordinary citizens to be more vigilant and security conscious to help weed out the perpetrators of evil in their communities.
