Firefox Browser Updated By Mozilla For Android Tablet
Mozilla has announced a Firefox update aimed at speeding up the web browser on Android tablets.
The company has said the new Firefox app will offer the same improvements currently found in Firefox 15 for Android smartphones.
Mozilla's latest tablet web browser will come with new features aimed at giving users a faster and more secure mobile browser.
"We're proud to announce a redesigned Firefox for Android for tablet devices is now available for download in the Google Play store. The same dramatic improvements that made Firefox for your Android phone super fast are now available for tablets," the company said in a blog post.
"You'll notice everything is quicker, from startup and page load times to panning and zooming and web app performance."
Firefox's update now offers a personalised start screen that shows users bookmarks, browsing history, and form data.
The mobile web browser supports flash for Android Honeycomb-based tablets and includes a "request desktop site" button in the browser's menu, along with all of the features currently found on the apps' desktop counterpart.
Mozilla also recently announced that it has reduced the memory usage for Firefox desktop add-ons.
"Browsers do a lot more work than they used to. Typical Firefox users today don't just load pages of text, we run high performance web applications with a rich set of HTML5 features," wrote Firefox product manager Asa Dotzlor in a blog.
"We keep those pages open for longer, and have more of them open at once. We're living so much of our lives online that browsers have become like operating systems, sometimes running dozens of applications at once."
The new memory usage fix is a mechanism that detects patterns in an attempt to prevent add-ons from leaking memory.
Mozilla has created the detection patterns to stop add-ons from holding onto extra copies of websites information even after a user closes a tab.
