A total of 1,277 of the 2,150 corps members posted to Kano State for the 2012 ‘Batch B service year have so far sought for redeployment to other states. The state NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Bashir Yakasai, disclosed this in an interview in Kano on Monday. He said that of those, who sought redeployment, 1,108 were posted to other states on health grounds and for security reasons, while the remaining 169 were re-deployed on marital ground. He, however, said that the state NYSC had also received more than 50 corps members re-deployed from other states to Kano. On the issue of rejection, the coordinator said that the number so far rejected by employers was negligible considering the number of corps members, who relocated to other states. “With the population of Kano, the remaining 873 corps members are grossly inadequate to cater for the state,” he said. A suicide bomber at about 10.46am today attacked the Sokoto zonal office of the Nigeria Police, which houses the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police and in the process, killing self and a police officer who was on guard there. The bomb shattered the office of the AIG and his official car and its impact affecting the office of the Divisional Police Officer and other shops opposite the zonal police headquarters. Information has it that multiple bomb blasts have hit two police stations in separate parts of Sokoto, Monday morning. Sources say the attacks were carried out by suicide bombers suspected to be members of the Islamic militant sect, Boko Haram. Sokoto is one of the few Northern states that have so far remained peaceful since the Boko Haram rampage in the North began. Monday’s first attack was reported to have been targeted at the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in the city at Marina.
